On July 20, 1969, the people of Earth were glued to their television sets. Before their very eyes, a door opened, a ladder descended, and a man first set foot on the surface of the Moon. The footprints, the flag and plaque left on the lunar surface sent an eternal message throughout the cosmos: humanity had finally reached the heavens, and America led the way.
This 2019 S 50C Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint and has been certified Enhanced Reverse PF70 Ultra Cameo First Day of Issue by NGC!! It was minted in 2019 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo moon landing.
The obverse of the coin features JFK’s profile, facing left, with an enhanced reverse proof finish. The word “LIBERTY” curves around the top of his head and the year 2019 is at the bottom. The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is on JFK’s right and left and the “S” mark indicates that it was minted in San Francisco.
The reverse (tails) side features a heraldic eagle behind a union shield. The eagle is holding a branch in its left talons and a bunch of arrows in its right talons. In its beak is a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. The eagle is surrounded by 50 stars, the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” are at the top and “HALF DOLLAR” is at the bottom.
