Shock Your Pool for Crystal Clear Water In 24 Hours
Boost Chlorine
Chlorine sanitizes your pool to remove bacteria and other hazardous contaminants to keep water clean. Use HTH Super Shock! Treatment to restore chlorine levels that have been depleted by the sun, rain and heavy use.
Kill Bacteria & Algae
Low chlorine levels, poor water circulation and warm weather can encourage bacteria and algae growth. Rid your pool of black algae, mustard algae and green algae and prevent regrowth by shocking your pool once a week. Don’t forget to brush the floor and walls of the pool.
Keep Water Clear
The fast-dissolving formula found in HTH shock treatments acts quickly to restore clarity to your water so you can be back in the swimming pool within 24 hours. Plus, the treatment won’t overstabilize your pool or fade your liners.
How to Use HTH Shock Treatment
Test pH Levels
Dip an HTH Multi-purpose 6-Way Test Strip (sold separately) into the water to measure total alkalinity, pH, free available chlorine (FAC), calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid (CYA) or stabilizer. Balance water, and adjust alkalinity and pH levels, where applicable.
2. Apply Directly to Water
Before handling any chemicals, put on protective gloves and goggles. During evening hours and with the pump running, broadcast the HTH Super Shock! Treatment evenly over a wide area in the deepest part of your pool.
3. Wait & Test Chlorine Levels
If granules settle along the bottom of the pool, use a brush to disperse until granules are dissolved. Once free available chlorine levels are between 1 and 4 parts per million, your pool is ready to use again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Many factors work against the cleanliness of your pool. Sunlight breaks down the chlorine, causing the water to lose up to 5 ppm of chlorine in one sunny afternoon. Swimmers unintentionally release bacteria and contaminants like sweat, makeup and sunscreen. And storms can bring dust, pollen, leaves and algae spores. Shocking is one of the best ways to protect your pool water and keep it crystal clear.
In ideal circumstances, shocking your pool once a week will keep it looking clean and clear, but heavy rainfall, signs of algae, heavy use or long periods of sunny weather may require more frequent treatment. Sundown is the best time to shock your pool, so the chlorine can work to restore water clarity without the sun’s harsh ultraviolet rays. Brush the pool floor and walls to help expose settled contaminants to the chlorine.
First, brush the floor and walls of your pool to loosen the algae and break down the cells’ outer membrane to allow the chemicals to penetrate. Next, shock the pool with an HTH shock treatment, following label instructions. After 24 hours, use an HTH algaecide to treat the effected area, then brush the pool again. Keep the pump running overnight and continue to use the algaecide once a week to prevent future growth.
